Bee Nice… Plant a Bee Garden!

Ever wanted to plant a bee garden but didn’t know where to start? Or have you heard of bee gardens but weren’t quite sure why they are so important and needed?

There are over 20,000 different breeds of bees all of which have steadily declined at detrimental rates- about 33% every year. As daunting as it may seem, there are actually plenty of things YOU can do at home in your very own yard that can help bring bees numbers back!

  • Plant a bee garden: Fill your yard with their favorite flowers and beautify your yard at the same time! Be sure not to use pesticides in these flower beds, pesticides ends up in their nectar. (Not sure what to plant?! Click link below, ‘Plant Recommendations For Wild Bees’.)
  • Use organic pesticides, such as Neem Oil. You can also use live insects such as ladybugs and praying mantis to feed on pests such as mites and aphids! If you must use toxic pesticides, try to only use them while bees are still dormant in early spring.
  • Use organic controls for weeds.
